    FWS Finalizes Native American Policy

The Fish and Wildlife Service (Service or FWS), announced that they finalized a new Native American policy, which will replace the 1994 policy at 510 FW 1 in the Fish and Wildlife Service Manual.
The purpose of the policy is to carry out the United States’ trust responsibility to Tribes by establishing a framework on which to base interactions. The policy recognizes the sovereignty of Federally Recognized Tribes; states that the Service will work on a government-to-government basis with Tribal governments; and includes guidance on co-management, access to and use of cultural resources, capacity development, law enforcement, and education.
