Urge the House of Representatives to Act on Title IV Self-Governance Amendments

On July 7, 2015 the Senate passed S. 286, Department of the Interior Tribal Self-Governance Amendments 2015. S. 286 was referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources and to the Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs on August 4th.

Following Senate passage, the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) raised concerns about the bill with Senate and House Members and staff. The primary concerns identified relate to the bill’s purported impact on non-BIA programs. We need your support to address the AFWA’s concerns and to get a bill identical to the Senate passed version introduced in the House so that there is only one bill circulating in Congress with the expectation of passage in this session of Congress.

Self-Governance Tribes should request appointments or send letters of support to:

    1. Your Representative
    2. Members of the House Native American Caucus from your state
    3. Leadership of both the House Committee on Natural Resources and Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs
