USDA Releases Study on Feasibility of Tribal Administration of Federal Nutrition Assistance Programs

The Agricultural Act of 2014 (Farm Bill) contained provisions authorizing a study to examine the feasibility of Tribal administration of all Federal nutrition assistance programs – including the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) – in lieu of State agencies.

The full report includes information about a survey sent to all Federally Recognized Tribes gauging their interest in administering Federal nutrition programs, outcomes of the 16 site visits to Inter-Tribal Organizations (ITOs), Tribes, and Alaska Native Villages, and various recommendations put forth by Tribes and ITOs on how to improve the program.

The report is available here for review.
