Department of Interior (DOI) Listening Session on Tribal Discretionary Grants

October 20, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EDT

In response to President Biden’s Executive Order 13985, DOI is holding the following virtual listening session focused on Tribal Discretionary Grants, on October 20, 2021, 8:00-10:00 pm Eastern.

This session is being held to create an opportunity for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and identifying barriers related to the Tribal grant programs administered by DOI and its constituent bureaus (e.g., Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Indian Education, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Geological Survey). DOI also seeks recommendations on how to update processes, policies, regulations, and guidance to address barriers and challenges associated with applying for and accessing Tribal discretionary grant funding. Some questions to consider in preparation for this session include:

1. If you have applied to discretionary grants administered by DOI in the past, what has been your experience?
2. If you have not applied for discretionary grants administered by DOI, why not? What would make it easier for you to access grant opportunities with DOI?
3. What are the barriers to applying for grant opportunities with DOI? How can DOI remove or reduce barriers that Tribal Nations and communities face when participating or attempting to participate in DOI-administered grant opportunities?

It is strongly recommended that you join this session using the Zoom web link to fully participate and engage in interactive activities, but there will be an option to call in by phone as DOI acknowledges that internet connectivity may be challenging for some.

Any questions can be directed to DEIA@ios.doi.gov.
