Department of the Interior (DOI) Listening Session on Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities through Procurement and Contracting Opportunities

October 25, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EDT

In response to President Biden’s Executive Order 13985, DOI is holding the following virtual listening session focused on Procurement and Contracting Opportunities, on October 25, 2021, 8:00-10:00 pm Eastern.

This session is being held to obtain stakeholder input on barriers that underserved communities and individuals may face in taking advantage of DOI procurement and contracting opportunities. In addition to identifying barriers, DOI seeks recommendations on how to update processes, policies, regulations, and guidance to address inequities in DOI procurement and contracting opportunities. Some questions to consider in preparation for the session include:

1. Have you applied for or accessed procurement and contracting opportunities with DOI in the past? If so, please describe what you liked and did not like about the process. If not, why not? What would have made it easier for you to apply or access procurement and contracting opportunities with DOI?
2. What are the barriers to applying for procurement and contracting opportunities with DOI? How can DOI remove or reduce barriers (e.g., update policies, practices, or programs)?
3. How can DOI establish and maintain connections to a wider and more diverse set of stakeholders representing underserved communities? How can DOI better share information with underserved stakeholders about procurement and contracting opportunities?

While all members of the public are invited to submit comments (link forthcoming), the target audience for listening sessions is members and representatives of the underserved communities identified in Executive Order 13985.

It is strongly recommended that you join this session using the Zoom web link to fully participate and engage in interactive activities, but there will be an option to call in by phone as DOI acknowledges that internet connectivity may be challenging for some.

Any questions can be directed to DEIA@ios.doi.gov.
